Acton Gardens Phase 4 is an ambitious proposal for 107 homes ranging from 7-9 storeys consisting of 50% private and 50% affordable homes together with a proposal for new integrated park design for L&Q & Countryside Properties. The design of Phase 4 was partly influenced by the 19th Century mansion villa block in both form and social need for high density housing. The contemporary interpretation both exudes quality in the use of rich materials, brick, pre-cast concrete surrounds and etched glass balustrades.

Our concept was to achieve an attractive building form to address the key frontage of a new park without creating a wall or barrier between the park and an existing shared courtyard of a previous phase. Instead we looked to achieve a more visually permeable building, with articulation that would allow more lightness, transparency and connection through the building form. The main blocks can be read as 3 distinct Park Frontage Villa blocks, with robust masonry and large, full height windows, which have echoes of a more recognisable vernacular architecture of the grand Georgian or Victorian townhouses and mansion blocks that line the parks of London.
