eScape wins British Home Awards

The eScape scheme, built in Sittingbourne, Kent, designed by PCKO Architects, won this year’s Mail on Sunday British Home Award in the Small House Category.

The design was created for a competition promoted by David Wilson Homes in association with Design for Homes and Wood for Good. In our design, we have created a new model for the townhouse by addressing key problems associated with traditional townhouses: lack of space at ground floor level necessitating living space at first floor, lack of private amenity space and ‘noisy neighbours’. Our solution provides a large, flexible, open plan ground floor arrangement with a central double height atrium - the ‘light court’ adding a wow-factor and allowing natural light to penetrate deep into house. Bedrooms and bathrooms are located on floors above on either side of the light court. All spaces are connected by the ‘living wall’ zone incorporating circulation and a flexible arrangement of storage and services. High performance envelope has been constructed using SPACE-4 panelised timber frame system.
