PCKO BEATS INTERNATIONAL STARS TO SCOOP LEAF AWARD

PCKO Architects (UK), a specialist residential and community architect, win the residential category in the Emirates Glass 2008 LEAF Awards at the  Dorchester Hotel on the 23 October 2008. The Leaf Awards, now in its fifth year, have rapidly become one of the most prestigious worldwide architecture prizes recognising excellence in architectural design and build. PCKO overcame an impressive shortlist of internationally recognised practices including Bernard Tschumi and WOHA architects in projects covering New York and Singapore.

The award for the winning scheme, PCKO's 'eScape' town house was presented by host Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen, famous interior designer and television personality. The winning project 'eScape' was originally a competition winner in itself, winning the David Wilson competition for a new townhouse typology and was built by Barratt Homes in Sittingbourne, Kent.

The judges highlighted the great sense of light and space generated by the central 'light court', and how it responded to changing living patterns and environmental well being.

PCKO Director Peter Chlapowski commented that, "A standard house type like 'eScape', does not have to be standard, it can respond to changing lifestyles and developments in  construction technologies  to  overcome lack of space and the usual box mentality. We feel it demonstrates that the UK building industry can produce world class housing  to address the real needs of people."

PCKO would like to thank Barratt Homes, Space4, Design for Homes, Wood for Good and Building Magazine
